HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's women's tennis will take a break from Horizon League play as the team heads across the river to take on regional foe Cincinnati on Wednesday, April 3. First serve is set for 3 p.m. and live scoring will be provided.
The Norse went 1-1 over the weekend, picking up a 5-2 victory over IUPUI before falling to preseason Horizon League favorite UIC, 6-1.
Maria Koo went undefeated in No. 2 singles action over the weekend, defeating IUPUI's Gabrielle Ochalik, 6-4, 6-0, before coming from behind for a pair of 6-4 sets over UIC's Karyna Bihel. Koo also teamed up with
Katja Dijanezevic in doubles play as the pair posted a 6-1 win over IUPUI's tandem, while
Taylor Culbertson and
Margita Sunjic had a hard-fought 7-6 win in the top flight.
The Bearcats are 9-7 on the year and 0-2 in American Athletic Conference play, but the team has yet to drop a match at home this season. The two teams have faced four common opponents, with Cincinnati blanking IUPUI, Wright State and Dayton while falling to Louisville, 5-2. NKU also defeated Dayton and fell to the Cardinals, but suffered a setback to Wright State. Ioana Guna and Antonella Bramato have split time between the No. 1 and 2 singles spots, posting a combined 14-12 record. Bramato also pairs with Alexia Coutino for No. 1 doubles and the pair has enjoyed success with a 9-5 mark, while Guna and Anna Philp have gone 8-5 in the No. 2 spot.
NKU and Cincinnati last met on April 4, 2018. The Bearcats won, 5-2, as Sunjic downed Guna in a 6-1, 6-0 decision and Dijanezevic posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over Philp in the No. 6 singles match.
