HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's women's basketball team announced its nonconference slate of opponents for the 2019-20 season, which features 11 foes against which the Norse will tune up in preparation for the Horizon League schedule. NKU will also host Davis & Elkins in an exhibition game to give fans a first glimpse of the squad.
Nonconference Highlights
- The Norse host Davis & Elkins in a Halloween exhibition, slated for a 7 p.m. tipoff inside BB&T Arena on Thursday, Oct. 31.
- NKU kicks off the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 6, when the Norse make the short trip to Richmond, Kentucky, for a contest at Eastern Kentucky.
- The Norse return home on Tuesday, Nov. 12, to take on Saint Louis at 7 p.m.
- From there, NKU plays two road matches in Nashville, first facing Lipscomb on Friday, Nov. 15, before playing Belmont on Sunday, Nov. 17.
- The Norse then welcome Nebraska-Omaha to BB&T Arena on Thursday, Nov. 21, before hosting Central Arkansas for Victor's Hoops 4 Health Day at Monday, Nov. 25. The annual event, which draws upwards of 4,000 local elementary school children, is set for an 11 a.m. tip-off.
- NKU heads to warmer weather for the FIU Tournament in Miami, Florida. The tournament pits the Norse against Jacksonville State and FIU on Friday, Nov. 29, and Sunday, Dec. 1, but the opponents have not yet been assigned a specific date.
- The Norse return home to test their mettle against Louisville, which advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2019 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament and finished the year ranked No. 6 nationally. Tipoff against the Cardinals is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8.
- The final road game of the nonconference slate will be on Monday, Dec. 16, when the Norse head to Terre Haute, Indiana, for a game at Indiana State.
- The Norse play their final tune-up leading into Horizon League play on Friday, Dec. 20, when the team hosts Wofford College at 7 p.m.
Norse Notes
- Northern Kentucky had its highest conference finish since transitioning to Division I last season, posting a 10-8 mark in Horizon League play to tie for fifth.
- The Norse ended the 2018-19 home schedule with a six-game winning streak.
- Ally Niece was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team, ranking in the top-10 among all league players in scoring, assists, 3-point field goal percentage, free throw percentage and minutes played.
- NKU welcomes Lester Rowe to the coaching staff for the 2019-20 campaign. Rowe previously spent eight seasons on the bench at West Virginia.
- The Norse freshman class features Carissa Garcia, Tayah Irvin and Ivy Turner. NKU also added a transfer with NJCAA All-American Janna Lewis.
