HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's women's tennis will head to the University of Kentucky on Friday, Jan. 17, to begin their season with first serve beginning at 11 a.m. Following, the Norse will make the short trip up to Dayton on Saturday, Jan. 18. The first serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg, Ohio.
 
Northern Kentucky is coming off of a 7-12 season in 2018-19. The Norse return six players and have added one freshman to the squad. Returners Margita Sunjic and Maria Koo are expected to lead the Norse out of the No. 1 and 2 singles spots. Sunjic completed last season with an 11-7 overall record and was named to the Horizon League First Team for the third year in a row. Koo led the Norse in overall wins, going 13-5, and earned Horizon League Second-Team honors for the second-consecutive year. Elizabeth Rozin is also among the returners, posting a 10-7 overall record in 2018-19.
 
The Wildcats held a 19-9 overall record in the 2018-19 season and are 1-0 on the year, defeating Florida Gulf Coast University, 5-2. According to the fall ITA Division I Women's Doubles National Rankings, Kentucky sports the 21^st-best doubles team in the nation with Akvile Paražinskaite and Lesedi Jacobs. Jacobs also finished the fall ranked 59 according to the final fall rankings.
 
The Norse and Wildcats last met on Feb. 17, 2019 in Lexington. UK has come out victorious in all four meetings with NKU.
 
Dayton has its 2020 debut against the Norse on Saturday. The Flyers concluded their 2018-19 season with an overall record of 4-21. Dayton will also face Horizon League opponents Cleveland State and Wright State this season.
 
The Norse and the Flyers have faced off eight times. Dayton is leading the series 5-3; however, NKU has come out with the win in three of the past four contests.
