CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's tennis topped the Hilltoppers in its home opener, 6-1. The Norse improved to 2-1 while Western Kentucky dropped to 3-1 on the year.
Match Notables
- The Norse won the doubles point with a dominating win by Maria Koo and Margita Sunjic over WKU's Cora-Lynn Von Dungern and Lisa Friess in No. 1 doubles, 6-0 ,followed by a 6-2 win from Elizabeth Rozin and Hannah Watton over Laura Bernardos and Tristen Bryant-Otake in No. 2 doubles.
- Ananya Kothakota was the first to finish in singles action, downing Zoe Wende in two sets 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles match.
- Sunjic put NKU ahead, 3-0, with a straight-set wins in No. 1 singles, defeating Von Dungern in the top flight with 6-2, 6-3 sets.
- Hannah Watton clinched the match in two sets over Lucia Diaz Saez in No. 6 singles. Watton won the first set, 6-4, and had a commanding second set of 6-1.
- After falling in her first set, 6-1, Rozin answered back with a 7-6(7) win of her own to extend the match, rattling off a 10-1 victory in the deciding pro set.
The Norse will return to action on Friday, January 31 at Xavier. First serve against the Musketeers is set for 1:30 p.m.
