HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Horizon League office in Indianapolis released the 2020-21 women's basketball schedule Wednesday afternoon. The 20-game league slate features the Northern Kentucky women's basketball team playing 10, two-game weekend series.
The league schedule has five home and five road series, with two contests being played each week on back-to-back days versus the same opponent at the same venue in order to minimize the exposure and risks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A two-game slate versus Youngstown State at BB&T Arena on Dec. 12 and 13 opens the league docket for Northern Kentucky. Cleveland State (Jan. 1-2) and Robert Morris (Jan. 15-16) travel to Highland Heights in the first month of the new year before NKU wraps up its home regular-season schedule with four-straight contests against Green Bay (5-6) and Wright State (12-13) in February.
Road matchups versus Purdue Fort Wayne (Dec. 19-20), IUPUI (Jan. 8-9), UIC (Jan. 22-23), Milwaukee (Jan. 29-30) and Oakland (Feb. 19-20) are also on tap.
As part of the 2020-21 regular-season schedule, Northern Kentucky will not compete against Detroit Mercy. The women's basketball nonconference schedule and details regarding the Horizon League Championship will be released at a later date.
The Horizon League Board of Directors, which is overseeing League-wide safety protocols, also determined that league games in the month of December will be played without fans, which encompasses team pass lists and complimentary tickets. This decision aligns with Northern Kentucky's prior announcement to hold its contests, including non-conference, without fans through the end of December.
NKU is coming off of its first 20-win season of the Division I era and an appearance in the Horizon League Tournament semifinals. Ally Niece, an all-league second team performer last year, leads a quartet of returning starters for the Norse. She averaged 13.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Fellow starters Ivy Turner, Emmy Souder and Kailey Coffey also return for the black and gold.
