Coffey repeats as CoSIDA Academic All-District® Team honoree

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released the 2019-20 Academic All-District® Teams on Thursday afternoon, with Northern Kentucky women's basketball junior Kailey Coffey earning a spot on the District 2 team for the second-straight season. Coffey is one of six student-athletes on the district team and is the only representative from the Horizon League to earn distinction.

District 2 is comprised of institutions located in Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware and Washington, D.C. In order to be selected for Academic All-District recognition, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale who has completed at least one year at his/her current institution and has competed in at least 50 percent of the institution's contests in the current season. Coffey easily meets the requirements, as she holds a flawless 4.00 GPA in chemistry & biochemistry, boasting the highest grade point average in District 2, and has started in all but one game for the Norse this season. She is one of just seven student-athletes out of 42 Division I honorees with an unblemished grade point average.

In addition to her exceptional performance in the classroom, Coffey has also been a key asset to NKU's success on the court. The junior leads NKU with 8.1 rebounds per game and is ranked fourth in league matchups at 8.5 caroms a contest. She has had eight double-digit rebounding efforts this season, leading the Norse on the board 17 times. Additionally, she has been a force on defense, leading NKU in blocks seven times and in steals five times, and guards positions 1-5, often lining up with the opponent's top scorer.

"Kailey exemplifies and embraces what it means to be a STUDENT-athlete!" remarked head coach Camryn Whitaker. "She is one of the most genuine, unselfish and grateful people I've ever known and I am so proud of her academic and athletic accomplishments so far. I am honored to be Kailey's coach and to be on this journey with her!"

Coffey is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on Monday, March 9. All student-athletes who were named to the first team of their respective districts will be placed into a ballot that will be voted upon by CoSIDA representatives.
