INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League announced on Monday afternoon that Northern Kentucky women's basketball sophomore point guard
Ally Niece has been named the Nike® Horizon League Player of the Week. She earns the final award of the season and is the first Norse to be named a player of the week since Courtney Rousch on Jan. 25, 2016.
"I'm so proud of Ally and how she has pushed through adversity this year," added head coach
Camryn Whitaker. "She's an extension of the coaching staff on the court and continues to lead our team as our point guard!"
Niece had the best offensive weekend of her collegiate career to close out the regular season and help the Norse secure the No. 4 seed in the Horizon League Championship. The sophomore averaged 21.5 points per game, doing so at 53.3 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from beyond the arc. Against Detroit Mercy, Niece poured in 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting and a remarkable 5-for-6 from 3-point range. She followed that up with a career-high 24 points at Oakland, going 9-for-18 from the floor with a pair of triples. Niece also averaged 5.0 assists while pulling down 1.5 rebounds and nabbing 1.5 steals per game.
Northern Kentucky will host No. 9 Detroit Mercy on Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the 2020 Horizon League Championship. With a win, the Norse will host again on Thursday, March 5.
