HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Horizon League office announced Monday afternoon that Northern Kentucky's
Ivy Turner was honored as the Nike® Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
"I'm so proud of Ivy and how she has continued to develop her game over the last three years," said head coach Camryn Whitaker. "She is always willing to do whatever our team needs to give us the best chance to have success! So glad to see her hard work and consistency paying off."
Turner, a junior guard from Danville, Kentucky, helped lead the Norse to a 2-0 week, first defeating Miami (Ohio) who was previously 2-1 with their only loss being to Illinois. Turner finished with 21 points, tying her career-high, in the 70-59 rout of the RedHawks on the road, shooting 7-for-12 from the field as well. She also went 7-for-8 from the free throw line and totaled four rebounds and two assists.
Game number two of the week saw Northern Kentucky defeat Central Arkansas on the road in overtime, who also had a winning record of 3-2. Turner posted a new career-high of 24 points against the Sugar Bears and added a career-high 13 made free throws in a single game to her stat line. She helped seal the win late in overtime as she knocked down six-consecutive free throws to finish off UCA.
She averaged a league-high 22.5 points during the 2-0 week, along with averaging 2.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. Turner led NKU shooting 46 percent from the floor and 76 percent from the charity stripe, going 20-for-26 overall.
The Norse return to Highland Heights for a three-game home stand next, beginning with Horizon League foe Cleveland State on Friday, Dec. 3. This conference match up is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip time inside BB&T Arena.
