HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball fell to Green Bay, 63-56, on Friday afternoon at BB&T Arena. The Norse are now 6-6 overall and 6-1 in conference play, while Green Bay moves to 10-6 on the year and 9-4 in the Horizon League.
STATS LEADERS
- Lindsey Duvall led the Norse with an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double.
- Kailey Coffey fell just shy of a double-double, contributing seven points and 11 rebounds.
- Ivy Turner had another solid performance, giving the Norse 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
- Carissa Garcia and Grayson Rose each had nine points.
TURNING POINT
- With the game going down to the wire, NKU struggled to sink both free throws at the line at the 3:31 and 2:53 marks with the opportunity to make it a one-possession game.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- NKU struggled on its first couple of possessions before Coffey made a tough layup down low. The next Norse possession saw Duvall get to the line and drop two to keep things even with Green Bay, 4-4, with 6:11 left in the first.
- Coffey answered back-to-back layups by the Phoenix with another hard-fought basket in the paint to start the day 2-for-2.
- Green Bay mostly dictated the rest of the opening quarter. Outside of a three-pointer from Garcia and a mid-range jumper by Duvall, Green Bay pulled away to a two-possession lead, 17-11.
- Duvall rained down a triple to begin the second quarter, but Green Bay fired back with two-consecutive threes of its own.
- NKU added points to the scoreboard on three-straight possessions before Green Bay responded with a 7-1 run.
- With 2:10 left in the half, Turner sank a triple and Coffey hit a free throw to bring NKU within six points, but Green Bay tallied on one more layup before half's end.
- Green Bay had the lead at halftime, 35-27. With the rebounding battle tied at 21, the real difference maker in the half was three-point shooting, with NKU shooting at a 25 percent rate (5-for-20) and Green Bay firing off double that at 50 percent (5-for-10).
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- A 7-2 spurt by Green Bay began half. Rose had the only bucket in that span and also ended the mini-run with a three-pointer on the left corner of the arc.
- Green Bay followed the Rose triple with a jumper, but Duvall buried another deep shot for the Norse to keep the deficit under 10.
- Turner turned the Norse momentum into a three-point parade with 4:41 left in the third, sinking another from beyond the arc, making it a two-possession game again, 44-38.
- After another three for NKU, this time from Duvall, Green Bay responded with a three-pointer of its own, ending the Norse slew from deep at the 1:34 mark in the third.
- With the Norse trailing by seven at the start of the final quarter, Turner slipped a bucket in down low in the final seconds of the shot clock to make it a five-point game.
- Duvall went to the line with 7:40 left and split a pair of free throws to tighten the game even further. From there, each side traded free throws and jumpers, but neither pulled away.
- The game came down to missed free throws, with Duvall and Rose converting on one-of-two in the final three minutes, keeping the Norse from being within one possession.
GAME NOTES
- Coffey is now up to 765 rebounds in her career, surpassing Teresa Rump's 764 for eighth all-time.
- Tayah Irvin's three blocks in the game is a new career high, besting her mark of one, which happened on eight different occasions.
- Duvall's double-double is her fourth this season and her first since posting three-straight from Dec. 3-12 against Bowling Green, Ohio State and Robert Morris.
