HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Griffin Doersching, who wrapped up an illustrious career for Northern Kentucky's baseball team this spring, earned a spot on the Midwest-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Region First Team the organization announced this week.
"I am so proud and excited for Griff," said Dizzy Peyton, current head coach of the Norse who spent the past four seasons coaching Doersching as an NKU assistant coach. "He put forth a lot of effort improving his game. He has definitely earned this honor and is well deserving. Griffin has been a great role model both in our baseball family and for future Norse on and off the field. You couldn't ask for a better teammate, leader or person than Griffin Doersching. He will be greatly missed by myself and the rest of our family for sure! We are so excited to see what the future holds for him."
NKU's starting first baseman for the last four years put together a stellar spring campaign that saw him hit a career-best .316 with the nation's 34th-highest on-base percentage at .488. Doersching blasted 20 homers and walked 50 times, both single-season records for the Norse. He also ranked in the top-10 in the country in five categories: walks per game (5th, 1.04), walks (6th, 50), home runs per game (6th, .42), slugging percentage (7th, .772) and home runs (8th, 20).
DI Baseball listed Doersching No. 7 on its list of Top-100 Draft Eligible Hitters published on April 15.
Doersching also earned a spot on the All-Horizon League First Team for the second time in his career. By season's end, the native of Greendale, Wisconsin, moved into the top five all-time at NKU in career home runs (2nd, 47), RBI (5th, 153), slugging percentage (5th, .562) and walks (5th, 96).
