HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball will welcome Kent State to BB&T Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 10, providing an early nonconference test for the Norse this year.
The Golden Flashes went 11-9 overall last season and sported a 10-6 mark in the MAC, placing them fifth in the 12-team league. Kent State is also in the midst of a streak of three-straight winning campaigns after posting records of 20-13 in 2018-19 and 19-11 in the COVID-19 shortened 2019-20 season. Rising juniors Nila Blackford and Katie Shumate led the team in scoring at 15.5 and 12.2 point per game.
NKU is coming off an 8-11 season in which it posted a 7-5 record in Horizon League play, which was the sixth-best winning percentage in the conference. All-Horizon League Second Team performer Lindsey Duvall and third-team honoree Ivy Turner return for the Norse. Duvall averaged 16.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, adding five performances with 20 or more points and six double-doubles. Turner poured in 11.2 points a contest. Grayson Rose also returns for another season donning the black and gold. She sets the tone on the defensive end of the floor, as the 2021 Horizon League All-Defensive Team member protected the rim with 1.4 blocks per game a season ago.
