HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Horizon League office announced Monday afternoon that Northern Kentucky's Khamari Mitchell-Steen was selected as the Nike® Horizon League Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week for the second straight week. This is the third consecutive week the Norse have earned the conference's Freshman of the Week honor. 

"Khamari continues to grow and develop each week in her young career!" said head coach Camryn Whitaker. "She's such a great defender which leads to offense in transition for her and our team. I'm looking forward to having her around a few more years!"

The Oak Ridge, Tennessee native, Mitchell-Steen posted yet another solid week in her first year with the Norse, averaging 7.5 points per game and shot 55 percent. She totaled three rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two assists throughout the week as well. Khamari totaled nine points in the win over Milwaukee to kick-off the week, shooting 4-for-7 from the floor. Her incredible defense helped lead the Norse hold the Panthers to just a shooting percentage of 36.4 percent as well. 

In the second matchup of the week against Green Bay, Khamari finished the day with six points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist. 

This is the third Horizon League Freshman of the Week selection for Northern Kentucky this season, as Kailee Davis earned the award two weeks ago (Jan. 10-16), and Mitchell-Steen receiving the honor last week (Jan. 17-23) as well. 

Northern Kentucky hits the road this week, first traveling to Chicago to take on the UIC Flames on Tuesday, Feb. 1. Tip-off for this Horizon League matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m. (ET) / 1 p.m. (CT) inside Credit Union 1 Arena.
