@NKUNorseBSB swept by ETSU to open season

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (0-3, 0-0 Horizon League) fell Sunday afternoon against East Tennessee State (3-0, 0-0 SOCON) by a final score of 14-3. 
 

AT THE PLATE 

  • Noah Fisher provided a spark offensively for NKU, hitting 1-for-4 with a home run, 2 RBI and a run scored.
  • Treyvin Moss kept his hot start to the season going with a home run of his own with 1 RBU and a run scored as well. Moss is currently hitting .353 on the year. 
  • Ryan Glass and Brennan Tucker each provided a double in this game as well. 
     

ON THE MOUND 

  • Noah Sackenheim (L, 0-1) started on the hill for NKU today, pitching 1.0 inning, and striking out two Bucs. Sackenheim allowed two earned runs, and three walks, along with one hit in his outing. 
  • Zach Haigis threw 1.2 innings of relief for the Norse, giving up five runs, four hits and walked two batters. 
  • Nick Noble posted the most successful pitching appearance for NKU today, throwing 3.1 total innings, allowing zero runs and only two hits. Noble struck out two of the 15 batters he faced also. 
  • Michael Bohlen, Drew Switzer and Blaine Walters each saw action on the mound in this game as well to round out the final 2.0 innings. 
     

AROUND THE HORN

  • The Buccaneers jumped out to an early lead in this third nonconference battle of the weekend for the Norse as ETSU scored five runs in the second inning.
  • ETSU added two more runs in the third inning to hold a 7-0 lead over Northern Kentucky. 
  • The Norse got on the board in the top of the eighth with a two-run shot from Fisher to left field which also scored Tucker. 
  • Moss joined in the offensive production for NKU with a solo home run of his own to go back-to-back with Fisher and cut the Bucs lead to just 7-3.
  • East Tennessee State however capped off the series sweep by adding seven more runs in the bottom half of the eighth to win it 14-3 overall. 
 

UP NEXT 

  • Northern Kentucky will hit the road once again, as the Norse will travel further south to take on No. 3 ranked Mississippi State in a three-game series. Game one of this nonconference action is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 25 in Starkville, Miss. with game time to be announced.
