@NKUNorseWBB set for final regular season finale

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball wraps up the regular season inside BB&T Arena Saturday, Feb. 26 against Horizon League adversary Detroit Mercy with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.

NORSE Breakdown
•  Northern Kentucky looks to end the 2021-22 regular season on a high note as the Norse welcome Detroit Mercy to BB&T Arena on Saturday, Feb. 26 with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
•  NKU completed its comeback against Oakland last time on on the court, defeating the Golden Grizzlies inside BB&T Arena 66-62. With that victory the Norse lock down fifth place in the Horizon League heading into next week's conference tournament.
•  With the victory over Oakland Thursday evening, the Norse improved their Horizon League record to 13-6 overall. The 13 wins for NKU are the most in program history since joining the conference.
•  Grayson Rose is ranked for 13th overall in the nation in total blocks with 64. She is also ranked 15th in the country in blocks per game at 2.46. She has been a force on the glass this season, ranking 47th in the nation in total rebounds with 241. She ranks 55th overall in boards per game with at 9.3 as well.
•  Freshman Khamari Mitchell-Steen is second overall in the Horizon League in total steals with 50.
• Rose is third overall in the Horizon League in rebounding with 9.3 boards per game, and is second in the conference in total rebounds with 241. She leads the league in blocked shots with 64, and leads in block shots per game at 2.5 this season.
•  Lindsey Duvall currently ranks third overall in the Horizon League in scoring average with 17.2 points per game. Duvall is first in the conference in total points however, with 448. She is also   seventh overall in rebounding in the conference at 7.3 boards per game.
• Duvall's incredible streak of scoring in double-digits in every single game she has worn a Northern Kentucky uniform was snapped at UIC (Feb. 1) earlier this week. Her impressive streak lasted 37 consecutive games.
• Kailee Davis was named the Nike Horizon League Freshman of the Week during the week of Jan. 10-16.
Ivy Turner was named the Nike Horizon League Player of the Week during the week of Nov. 20-28.
• Duvall was named the Nike Horizon League Player of the Week during the week of Dec. 6-12 and during the week for Dec. 27-Jan. 2.
• Duvall and Turner each received conference accolades with Duvall earning Horizon League Preseason All-League First Team and Turner getting an All-League Second Team nod.
• The Norse were picked to finish fourth in the 2021-22 Horizon League Preseason Coaches Poll.
• The Norse finished the 2020-21 season eighth overall in the Horizon League. NKU defeated Robert Morris in the first round of the conference tournament before falling to rival and number one seed Wright State in the quarterfinals.
 

Last Time Out
The Norse found themselves in an intense battle against Horizon League opponent Oakland Thursday evening, where NKU fought out a 66-62 win inside BB&T Arena. Turner and Duvall each fueled the Norse offensive attack, totaling 18 points apiece in the win. Duvall finished the game with a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds. She went on to dish out two assists as well. Turner's day ended with a game-high five assists, along with one steal and four rebounds also. Rose posted a double-figure scoring day for NKU, additionally totaling eight rebounds and a game-high three blocks in the win. NKU posted a 14-5 scoring run during the fourth quarter with four minutes remaining to hold a 54-41 lead at the media timeout. Oakland generated a 5-0 run late in the fourth to tie up the contest at 58-58 overall. Made free throws from Rose and Duvall, along with a late Turner driving layup completed the comeback victory for Northern Kentucky, 66-62. 


Scouting the Titans
Detroit Mercy enters the final regular season game of the year with an overall record of 1-27 and are currently 1-20 in the Horizon League, sitting in last place. The Titans have been led by a trio of scorers this season which includes Sydney Searcy scoring 10.5 points per game, Brandi Washington at 91 ppg and Irene Murua at 9.0 ppg. Murua is also the teams leading rebounder at 7.0 boards per game. UDM saw its most recent loss on Thursday on the road against Wright State, falling 71-67. 
 


Series Stuff
Northern Kentucky leads the all-time series between these two programs 10-3 overall. The Norse downed UDM earlier this season in Detroit by a final score of 74-54, and NKU is 5-1 all-time when playing in Highland Heights, Ky. NKU is also on a nine-game win streak against the Titans as well.
