#HLWBB All-League Awards Announced, Rose Tabbed as Defensive Player of the Year

HIGHLAND HEIGHTSKy. – Northern Kentucky's Lindsey DuvallIvy Turner , Khamari Mitchell-Steen and Grayson Rose each received end-of-season award recognition by the Horizon League office that they announced on Monday. Rose was named Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the all-defensive team, Turner and Duvall earned spots on the All-League Second Team, and Mitchell-Steen was named to the All-Freshman team. 

"Our team is made up of so many great players, all of which contribute in their own way!" head coach Camryn Whitaker discussed. "The unselfishness and team chemistry is genuine because they all truly care about each other. The awards are rewarding for each of our student-athletes and I'm proud of their hard work to achieve them, but I'm more proud of how we play together working towards a common goal of a championships!"

Rose, a graduate senior from Garrettsville, Ohio, posted a monster year for the Norse where she climbed up the all-time NKU rankings and is ranked within the top 20 nationally in multiple stat categories. Grayson finished the regular season as the Northern Kentucky all-time leader in games played. Rose also ranks second all-time in NKU history in blocked shots, second in blocks per game and sixth in total rebounds. Nationally she currently ranks 14th overall in total blocks and 16th in blocks per game. Grayson went on to lead the Horizon League in total blocks, blocks per game and was second in total rebounds, and fourth in boards per game. 

Duvall, a redshirt-senior from Mt. Washington, Kentucky, anchored NKU in scoring this season, finishing third overall in the conference in points per game at 16.9. Duvall did however lead the Horizon League in total points at 457. Lindsey additionally ranks seventh overall in the league in rebounding, pulling down 7.4 boards per contest. She found herself in multiple top five and top 10 stat categories in the conference including FG made (4th), 3FG made (2nd), total minutes (3rd), and total rebounds (5th). Duvall in just her second year cracked the all-time NKU top 50 in total points and ranks second overall in all-time scoring average.

Turner, a junior from Danville, Kentucky, did just about everything for the Norse during the regular season including ranking second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game. Turner led NKU in assists with 103 and was second in steals at 46. She ranks eighth overall in the Horizon League in points per game and seventh in total points. Ivy finished the regular season in second in the conference in total assists as well. Turner has been working her way up the NKU all-time leader boards as she ranks 36th overall in total points and 25th in scoring average. 

Mitchell-Steen, a freshman from Oak Ridge, Tenn., showed the league she was a lockdown defender from the moment she stepped on the court in 2021-22. Khamari ranks third overall in the conference in steals at 52 in just her first season with NKU. She is fourth overall in steals per game at 1.9 as well. Mitchell-Steen is fourth on Northern Kentucky in scoring as well, averaging 6.8 points per game. 

Northern Kentucky is back in action tomorrow as they host the First Round of the Horizon League Tournament inside BB&T Arena. The Norse enter the 2022 tournament as the No. 5 seed and will take on No. 12 seed Detroit Mercy Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. (ET).
