HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Horizon League office announced Monday morning that Northern Kentucky's
Trinity Thompson was selected as the Nike® Horizon League Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week.
"Trinity has taken advantage of playing with a fifth year senior in
Grayson Rose, who has pushed her all season!" said head coach Camryn Whitaker. "She continues to stay the course and work hard, trusting the process and I'm happy to see it pay off this week on the court. A small glimpse of what's to come!"
The Gray, Indiana native, Thompson had a quiet game but very efficient game against Oakland, as in her four minutes played she totaled two points, one rebound, one block and one steal. Thompson took over in the matchup against Detroit however, in her 16 minutes off the bench, she had a career day for NKU. Trinity finished with her first career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Thompson saw career-high marks hit today which included points (12), minutes (16), FG made (6), FG attempted (10), rebounds (13), blocks (2) and steals (1) as well.
This is the fourth Horizon League Freshman of the Week selection for Northern Kentucky this season, as
Kailee Davis earned the award once, and
Khamari Mitchell-Steen received the honor twice.
Northern Kentucky is back in action tomorrow as they host the First Round of the Horizon League Tournament inside BB&T Arena. The Norse enter the 2022 tournament as the No. 5 seed and will take on No. 12 seed Detroit Mercy Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. (ET).
