@NKUNorseXCTF sees three student-athletes named to the 2022 #HLTF All-Academic Teams

INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky women's and men's track and field programs each were honored by the Horizon League, as Andrea Armstrong, Lynsey Shipley and Jackson Coates were selected to the #HLTF 2022 Indoor All-Academic Teams the conference announced Monday.

Armstrong, a junior from Milford, Ohio, was named to the #HLTF Women's All-Academic Team after posting a 4.0 grade point average as a nursing major at Northern Kentucky. Andrea was also named to the 2020-21 Horizon League All-Academic Team, and was selected to the Horizon League 2021-22 Fall Academic Honor Roll as well. During the indoor season, Armstrong totaled seven top-ten finishes, which included taking home gold at the Horizon League Indoor Championships as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team. That same squad not only won the event with a time of 3:48.06, but broke the Northern Kentucky record in that event as well.

Shipley, a senior from Portsmouth, Ohio, earned a spot on the #HLTF Women's Honorable Mention Team with a 3.69 grade point average as a nursing major while attending NKU. She, like her fellow Norse Armstrong, was also a member of that 4x400-meter relay team that broke the Northern Kentucky record on their way to winning gold at the Horizon League Indoor Championships, and Lynsey also picked another conference championship win in the 400-meter dash. She additionally set the NKU record in the 200-meter at the Horizon League Indoor Championships with a time of 24.64. Shipley was named to the 2021-22 Horizon League Fall Academic Honor Roll as well.

Coates, a senior from Bethel, Ohio, was selected to the #HLTF Men's All-Academic Team after maintaining a 4.0 grade point average while studying a biological sciences and cellular/molecular/genetics track with a minor in chemistry. Jackson is a six-time Northern Kentucky President's Honors List selection, and during the indoor season he posted three top-ten finishes, two of which occurred at the Horizon League Championships. He also recorded a personal best in the 800-meter event at the #HLTF Championships with a time of 1:59.94 overall.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
