Weldemichael, O’Hara, Wilhelm headline big opening day at #HLTF Outdoor Championships

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Northern Kentucky University Norse track & field opened up competition in the Horizon League Outdoor Championships on Friday, as five Norse picked up points with three earning top-two finishes. 

NOTABLES (MEN)
– Natnael Weldemichael won the 10,000-meter run in 29:57.55, a new Northern Kentucky record in the distance race. It marked Weldemichael's second outdoor championship, as he won the 5000-meter run in 2024. 
– Colton O'Hara finished in second in the 10k race, running a 30:21.32, 27 seconds ahead of third place. 
– Camden Pawlick picked up three points for the Norse with a personal best throw of 46.88 in the discus, finishing sixth overall. Pawlick was the only freshman to finish inside the top ten. 
– Jacob Line qualified for Sunday's 1500m final with a time of 3:52.79, finishing 11th out of 12 qualifiers. Norse sophomore Nathan Ruth just missed the cut in 14th place, running a 3:55.99. 
– Halfway through the decathlon, the Norse currently have a pair of student-athletes on the podium, as Josh Brockman sits in seventh and Curtis Rust sits in eighth. Brockman's best event came in the 400m dash, as he ran a 51.52 and came in second, while Rust finished third in the high jump with a best leap of 1.88 meters. 

NOTABLES (WOMEN)
– Jill Wilhelm notched a second-place finish in the javelin, but came just .01 meter or .4 inches short of defending her Horizon League javelin title, as her best throw of 40.76 meters scored eight points for the Norse. 
– Kylie Dilley finished in eighth place in the javelin, recording a best throw of 34.56 meters and earning a point for the Norse. 
– Brittany Arnold finished in eighth in the 10,000-meter race, running a 37:04.86 and earning a point for the Norse. 
– Grace Biddle ran the second-fastest qualifying time in the 1500m run, finishing in 4:37.40.
