INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky Baseball student-athletes
Brennan Gick and
Michael Bohlen were selected to the 2022 Horizon League Baseball All-Academic Team announced by the conference Thursday.
A total of 14 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team while five more were tabbed as honorable mentions in balloting by the League's faculty athletics representatives.
Gick, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, finished the year ranked second overall in the conference in home runs (12), fourth in slugging percentage (.582) and seventh in OPS (.966). He graduated from Northern Kentucky with a 3.66 overall grade point average with a degree in Sports Business & Event Management with a minor in both Business and Marketing. He has volunteered at multiple events around Cincinnati which includes the leukemia-lymphoma fluid station at the Flying Pig Marathon and the Annual Strides Against Cancer Walk. Gick made 48 total starts this year, while appearing in 50 overall games, and finished third on Northern Kentucky in batting average at .305. He ended the 2022 season second on the team with 16 multiple hit games and second in multiple RBI games with 10 overall.
Bohlen, a junior from Chicago Heights, Illinois, made 18 total appearances on the mound for NKU this season and posted an earned run average of 6.65 overall. He is currently studying Communications at Northern Kentucky with a minor in Marketing. He volunteered at multiple events around Cincinnati during the 2021-22 year. which includes the leukemia-lymphoma fluid station at the Flying Pig Marathon, the Annual Strides Against Cancer Walk and the Henry Hosea House by providing food/nourishment for the local community in Newport, Kentucky. Bohlen finished the regular season totaling 17 strikeouts over 23.0 innings as well.
The All-Academic Team and Honorable Mention Team are comprised of student-athletes from all seven League institutions that sponsor baseball. Oakland led the League with six total selections while Youngstown State placed three total student-athletes on the teams. Milwaukee, Northern Kentucky, Purdue Fort Wayne, UIC and Wright State all had two student-athletes named to the All-Academic Teams.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests or 20 percent of overall contests for pitchers. An Honorable Mention is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes, but did not make the All-Academic team.
