SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Padres drafted former Northern Kentucky University Baseball standout Griffin Doersching in the 8th round of the MLB Draft on Monday.

Doersching spent four seasons with the Norse from 2018-21, and left his mark on the NKU program in an unforgettable way. He wrapped up his Northern Kentucky career earning a spot on the Midwest-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team in 2021. Doersching finished his NKU career ranked second all-time in Norse history in career home runs (47), 5th in RBI (153), 5th in slugging percentage (.562), 5th in walks (96) and was crowned the 2019 Rocket Mortgage College Home Run Derby champ. He also racked up many other awards in a Norse uniform including being named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American, All-Horizon League First Team (2x), Horizon League Freshman of the Year, All-Horizon League Freshman Team

During Griffin's final season with Northern Kentucky he set the Norse all-time single-season home run record with 20 total and the single-season base-on-balls mark (50) in a season that was shortened to 48 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally he was ranked in the top 10 in various stat categories nationally which included fifth in walks per game (1.04), sixth in walks (50), sixth in home runs per game (0.42), seventh in slugging percentage (.772), and eighth in total homers (20). Doersching also tied NKU's single-game mark for the second time in his career with three homers in game two against UIC on May 22, 2021.
