INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball program was selected to finish fifth overall in the Horizon League 2023-24 Under Armour #HLWBB Preseason Poll and Kaile Davis was named to the Preseason All-League Second Team as the conference announced its preseason poll and award winners on Wednesday. The results were based off voting by Horizon League head coaches as well.
The Norse are coming off a 17-14 season with a 10-10 record during Horizon League play in 2022-23. Northern Kentucky went on to advance to the Horizon League Tournament Semifinals, the second trip to Indianapolis under head coach Camryn Volz with the previous occurrence during the 2019-20 season.
"Going to take a lot of luck and remaining healthy to get back to the title game. Green Bay will be very good, YSU has a lot of experience and Cleveland State is good no matter what." head coach Camryn Volz told Michael Ruscher of the HoriZone Roundtable.
Davis, a junior guard from Detroit, Michigan, was named to the Horizon All-League Third Team during the 2022-23 campaign after averaging 13.4 points per game as the second Northern Kentucky leading scorer. Kailee was lights out from beyond the arc last season, shooting 35 percent overall from three-point range. She ranked fifth overall in the Horizon League last year in assist/turnover ratio at 1.43 and was sixth in the conference in assists with 87 total. Davis also ranked seventh in the Horizon League in three-pointers made per game at 1.81.
Northern Kentucky will see one senior suit up in the black and gold during the 2023-24 season in
Kennedy Igo, a guard from Mount Sterling, Ky. ""The best way to describe Kennedy is tough. She's one of the fiercest competitors I've watched play the game in a while," Coach Volz discussed with Ruscher. "Not only can she impact the game on the offensive end with her scoring and passing ability, but she is also relentless on the defensive end of the floor. Kennedy has a great feel for the game and is a natural leader."
NKU will begin the year with an exhibition game against Cedarville in Highland Heights on Thursday, November 2 at 7 PM ET inside Truist Arena. The Norse then officially open the regular season at home on Monday, November 6 as the Sycamores of Indiana State make the trip over to Truist Arena. Tip-off for the Northern Kentucky season-opener is scheduled for 7 PM ET inside Truist Arena and tickets can be purchased
