McCray named #HLWBB Freshman of the Week after record-setting performance

INDIANAPOLIS – After one of the best performances in school history, Carter McCray was named the Horizon League's Freshman of the Week, announced by league offices on Monday.

The first-year center from Oberlin, Ohio posted a huge double-double with 25 points and 21 rebounds, to go with two assists and two steals as the Norse defeated Marshall 76-66 inside Truist Arena on Saturday.

The 21 rebounds set a NKU NCAA Division I school record, to go with being tied for second in all of NCAA DI for most boards recorded in a single game so far this season.

McCray enters the new week amongst the nation's best in rebounding. She leads the Horizon in rebounds per game (13.0), defensive boards per contest (7.3) and offensive rebounds per game (5.7). On the national level, McCray is ranked sixth in all of NCAA DI in rebounds per game and offensive boards per contest, to go with being tied for 18th in double-doubles (two).

To make the feat even more impressive, NKU was down to a bench of just eight student-athletes, with six checking into the non-conference clash with Marshall in one of the best victories in recent memory in program history.

The Norse are heading South for Thanksgiving as NKU will open play at the Daytona Beach Classic on Friday, November 24 at 3:30 PM ET. It will be NKU against Pittsburgh in the opening round of the tournament, which will be played in front of a national audience on FloSports.
