INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky women's basketball standout
Carter McCray is proving she is not only one of the best freshmen in the league, but in the entire nation as the center was once again named the Under Armour Horizon League Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
McCray posted back-to-back double-doubles in another huge week. She started the two-game slate off with 15 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and an assist in a victory over Robert Morris and followed it up with an eye-popping 25 points, 11 boards, three helpers and a swipe against Wright State. The 25-point performance against the Raiders tied a season and career best.
Over NKU's two games, McCray averaged 20 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals. It was the third time already this season that the Oberlin, Ohio native has taken home the top freshmen conference weekly honor.
McCray continues to lead the Horizon in rebounding at 9.9 boards per game. The next closest conference student-athlete is nearly two full rebounds behind her. She is also sixth in the league in scoring (14.3 points per game) and third overall in field goal percentage (.534).
On the national level, McCray is ranked 22nd in all of NCAA Division I basketball in offensive rebounds per game (3.9), 24th in boards per contest, 37th in rebounds overall (169), 38th in double-doubles (seven) and 51st in field goal percentage.
The Norse hit the road for a Horizon League showdown at Youngstown State on Wednesday, January 24. Tip is set for 6:30 PM ET and the
game will be played in front of a national audience on ESPN+.
