Kamora Morgan Tabbed #HLWBB Freshman of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Despite a tough, close loss to Southern Indiana on Saturday, the Northern Kentucky Norse Women's Basketball program had one key bright spot in a stellar performance by freshman Kamora Morgan. Morgan's 21-point afternoon made her the league's Freshman of the Week, an honor the Norse haven't earned since Carter McCray did it on February 19th, 2024.

Entering Saturday's matchup with the Screaming Eagles, Morgan's career-high was just eight points, but the freshman has been a key figure off the bench all season. Morgan scored at least six points in her last four games, including eight against Marshall and Cedarville. 

Against Southern Indiana, Morgan only had three points at halftime, scoring her first bucket in the game with just 101 seconds remaining in the second quarter. 

The second half was a different story, as the freshman came in at the 6:11 mark in the third, then played all but 15 seconds for the rest of the game. Facing a 19-point deficit, Morgan hit a three, then a layup to cut it to 14. Going into the fourth quarter down 16, Morgan drove in for back-to-back layups early in the quarter to cut it to 12. The Norse kept digging into the USI lead, as Morgan then got a steal, then set up Kalissa Lacy for a three. The freshman stayed hot, scoring the next five points for the Norse, including a key and-one. A three-pointer to put the Screaming Eagle lead at three capped off an outstanding day for Morgan, who finished the game with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and went 8-12 from the floor. 

"We are proud of Kamora's efforts on both ends of the floor this past week," said head coach Jeff Hans. "With each practice and game she has become more and more comfortable in our system. We look forward to her continued growth!"
