Mitchell-Steen and McCray sweep #HLWBB weekly honors

INDIANAPOLIS – After leading the red-hot Northern Kentucky women's basketball team to a perfect 2-0 week, Khamari Mitchell-Steen and Carter McCray teamed up to sweep the weekly conference awards, announced by the league office on Monday.

Mitchell-Steen was named the Horizon's Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

The junior guard started the slate with 25 points, eight rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks in a win over IUPUI and followed it up with a career-best 30 points, seven boards, five swipes and four helpers in a victory over Wright State.

Over the two games, she totaled 55 points, 15 rebounds, nine assists and eight steals for an average of 27.5 points, 7.5 boards, 4.5 helpers and 4.0 swipes per contest.

With the two huge stat-stuffing games, Mitchell-Steen improved to sixth in the Horizon in scoring (14.5 points per game) tied for sixth in assists per game (3.0) and tied for third overall in steals per contest (2.1).

McCray picked up her sixth Horizon League Freshman of the Week honor of the year, and her third straight overall.

The first-year center continued to be an absolute force as she went for back-to-back double-doubles. McCray started the week by tying her season and career-best with 25 points, 11 rebounds and two assists in the win over the Jaguars and followed it up with 20 points, 10 boards, four helpers and a block in the victory over the Raiders.

Over the two games, the Oberlin, Ohio native totaled 45 points, 21 rebounds and six assists for an average of 22.5 points, 10.5 boards and 3.0 helpers per contest.

McCray continues to lead the Horizon in rebounding (10.7 rebounds per contest) and is fifth in scoring (14.9 points per game). On the national level, she is 12th in all of NCAA Division I basketball in total rebounds (267), seventh in offensive rebounds per game (4.6), 14th in boards per contest, tied for 22nd in double-doubles (13) and 38th in field goal percentage (.542).

To make her numbers even crazier, McCray now has more games with double-doubles (13) than contests without one (12).

The Norse will look to make it four wins in a row as they play host to conference foe Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday, February 21 inside Truist Arena. Tip is set for 7 PM ET and fans can purchase their tickets to the huge Horizon League clash here.
