HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – It is a new era for the Northern Kentucky women's basketball program and the Norse are ready to kick it off in a big way as NKU is set for an in-state clash with the University of Kentucky on November 7 inside historic Memorial Coliseum in downtown Lexington.
The match up marks the 17th meeting between the Norse and the Wildcats all-time and is the first since 2015.
The excitement around the upcoming season is real as first year head coach Jeff Hans returns to the NKU sidelines to lead the program back to its championship tradition. Hans joined the Norse in April after 13 seasons at Thomas More that included 339 wins (to just 42 losses), a pair of national championships and three National Coach of the Year awards.
Hans spent a total of five seasons across two stints as an assistant coach with the Norse under the legendary Nacny Winstel before he took over the helm at TMU.
With a roster of both high-caliber returners and a plethora of talented incoming student-athletes, NKU will enter the 2024-25 campaign with one of the most highly-anticipated seasons in recent memory.
Kentucky is entering a new era of its own under first year head coach Kenny Brooks, who joined the Wildcats from Virginia Tech following the 2023-24 season. UK finished 12-20 overall and 4-12 in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play last year, while Brooks's Virginia Tech squad posted a 25-8 record (14-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Brooks was at Virginia Tech for eight seasons and led the Hokies to their first NCAA Final Four in 2023 and the 2024 ACC regular season championship. Virginia Tech went posted eight consecutive winning seasons with the Hokies, which included four straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2021-24). He has complied a record of 517-204 (.717) overall.
