HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball program is putting together a challenging non-conference schedule ahead of the 2024-25 season, and the Norse are set to renew a rivalry that dates back four decades with a trip to Evansville, Ind., for a road clash at Southern Indiana.
"We are excited to start a home and home series with the University of Southern Indiana," said head coach Jeff Hans. "It has been a few years since the tradition rich programs have met on the court, and it was always a battle in those GLVC days. USI has carried that tradition into their new Division I era, as they were the Ohio Valley Conference Champions last season."
The meeting marks the 57th all-time meeting between NKU and USI and the first since 2012. The former GLVC rivals will meet for the first time as Division I opponents on November 23 at Screaming Eagles Arena.
With Hans on staff, Northern Kentucky has been successful versus USI, with the Norse finishing 6-4 versus the Screaming Eagles across his two prior stints in Highland Heights.
Overall, NKU has dominated the all-time series to the tune of a 38-19 record overall, which includes a 19-9 mark in Evansville. The Norse were victorious in each of the last four meetings.
Southern Indiana enters its third season at the Division I level in 2024-25, and is coming off a historic campaign culminating in both the Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships and a win at the WNIT.
The Screaming Eagles are coached by Rick Stein, who will enter his 26th season at the helm of the program in the upcoming season. Stein has 448 career victories at USI, the most of any coach in school history.
