Five Norse earn #HLBASE All-League honors

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky baseball had five student-athletes named All-Horizon League for their performances this season, as the league announced postseason awards on Tuesday.

Logen Devenport, Kaden Echeman, and Gabe Miranda were named First Team, with Aaron Boster and Tyler Shaneyfelt making the Second Team. Ryan Pehrson was named a finalist for the league's Sportsmanship Award.

Devenport First team

Finishing the season with a .423 batting average, Logen Devenport became the first Horizon League player since Peyton Burdick (Wright State, 2019) to finish the season with an average over .400 on his way to a First Team All-League selection.

In just 46 games, Devenport posted 23 multi-hit performances, with five three-hit games, a four-hit game and a five-hit game against Miami (OH) in February. He lead the Norse in home runs (14), doubles (19), total bases (132), batting average (.423), on-base percentage (.533), slugging percentage (.786) and OPS (1.319). He also stole 19 bases, and finished the season with a .987 fielding percentage.

Echeman First Team

After missing most of the 2024 season due to injury, Kaden Echeman dominated opposing batters all year long to earn his second career All-League honor and first selection to the First Team.

In just 11 games this season, Echeman pitched to a 3.83 ERA and led the Horizon League in strikeouts with 80 in just 51.2 innings for a K/9 of 13.7 — one of the best in the country. Echeman's finest outing of the year came in the Horizon League opener, as the right-hander dominated with 12 strikeouts in seven shutout innings against Purdue Fort Wayne. On the season, opponents hit just .206 against him.

miranda first team

In his first season in Highland Heights, Gabe Miranda made quite the impression on the Horizon League, being named First Team All-League at first base.

Miranda produced in every facet of the game for the Norse, leading the team in RBI with 65 and stealing 10 bases while being nominated for a Gold Glove for his outstanding defense at first base (.997 fielding percentage in 378 chances). At the plate, Miranda finished third on the team in home runs (11) and doubles (14) while leading NKU with 24 multi-hit games. He had a pair of multi-homer games, including a 5-5, 2 HR, 2 2B, 6 RBI day against Eastern Kentucky in March.

boster second team

An anchor in the starting rotation, Aaron Boster took the ball every weekend this season for the Norse, and pitched his way to his first All-League selection.

Ranking among the nation's leaders with his 14 starts, Boster led the Norse in innings with 61.2 and co-led the Norse in wins with four on the season. He struck out 58 batters while opponents managed a mere .242 batting average against him. The lefty's two finest outings came the expense of Horizon League foe Milwaukee, as he threw six no-hit innings against the Panthers in March before stepping up in a huge rubber match win for the Norse on May 3, where he threw 5.2 innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts.

shaneyfelt second team

After being named Second Team All-League last season, Mr. Do It All Tyler Shaneyfelt (also known as Johnny) played his way to a second straight All-League honor in 2025.

Splitting time between second base, shortstop, and centerfield, the graduate student from Dayton, Ohio was named to the Second Team for his work at second base. On the season, Shaneyfelt terrorized opponents on the base paths, at the plate, and in the field. His 32 stolen bases ranked second in the Horizon League and 26th nationally, while his 73 runs scored led the league and ranked ninth among all Division I players. He co-led the Norse in hits with 71 while posting four doubles, three triples and four home runs. He walked 37 times to just 34 strikeouts, posting a .447 on-base percentage. This past weekend against Youngstown State, he led the Norse to a sweep with a pair of four-hit games while stealing seven bases against the Penguins.
