Makaree Chapman earns #HLSB Pitcher of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Kentucky University Norse softball freshman Makaree Chapman starred in the circle in her first weekend of collegiate action and earned some hardware for her efforts, as she was tabbed the Horizon League's Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.

"I am so proud of Makaree's performance this weekend," said Norse head coach Morgan Gerak. "Her gamer mentality shined in the biggest moments. She set the tone for our team."

The Lexington, Ohio, native put up big numbers for the Norse, pitching in three of NKU's first four contests of the season. Chapman threw the fifth-most innings while posting the lowest ERA of any Horizon League pitcher in the opening weekend, as she allowed just one earned run in 11.2 innings of work, leading to a 0.60 ERA.

She earned her first career win in a complete game in her first college start, throwing seven innings of one-run ball against Murray State, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out four. On Saturday, she threw 1.2 scoreless innings against Lindenwood before earning her first career save in the nightcap vs. Southern Indiana, allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings.

Chapman and the Norse return to the field this weekend, taking on Monmouth, Bryant, and North Carolina at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill.
