NKU Women’s Basketball signs Sara Basaran

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse women's basketball announced its third addition of the 2026 offseason on Thursday, as Swedish forward Sara Basaran signed with the Norse. 

"Sara brings a versatility and competitive edge from Collin College that will immediately impact our program," said Norse head coach Jeff Hans. "She found both individual and team success there, consistently producing while playing a key role in her team's achievements. Sara impacts the game across multiple statistical categories, contributing as a scorer, rebounder, and playmaker, which makes her a true all-around presence on the floor."

Basaran played two seasons at Collin College in Collin County, Texas, making 62 appearances and 41 starts with the Cougars. In 2025-26, Basaran started all 31 games and led the team in minutes with 30.6 per game, points with 13.1, field goal percentage, shooting 47.4%, rebounds with 8.2 per game, and blocks at 1.2 a night, earning NJCAA Third Team All-American honors. She earned Region 5 All-Conference, All-Region, and All-Tournament team honors in her sophomore campaign. Sara also averaged 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game, while shooting 31.5% from three on three attempts a game. She put up a career-high 25 points in a January 31 win over Cisco College, where she shot 11-13 from the floor and 3-4 from three, and scored in double digits in 26 of 31 contests. Basaran recorded six double doubles on the season, including a 17-point, 15-rebound effort in a win over Southwestern Christian, with her 15 boards marking a career-best. Over her college career, she's racked up 613 points, 381 rebounds, 116 assists, 61 steals, and 45 blocks. Before her time at Collin, Basaran competed for club teams Malbas and Norrköping Dolphins. A native of Malmö, Basaran also competed for the Swedish U20 national team.
