HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Miami (Ohio) at home on Tuesday, 5-4, after the RedHawks' Dallas Hall clubbed a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning with the game locked in a 4-4 tie to give Miami its first and final lead of the game.
The Norse dip to 8-14 overall while Miami improves to 6-16.
At the Plate
- Mike Moffatt was the only Norse with a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 on a pair of doubles.
- Chad Roberts had a pair of RBI while Dominic Mercurio laced a solo home run.
- Six Norse recorded one hit in the contest as NKU out-hit Miami, 8-7.
On the Mound
- NKU starter Brody Basilone retired the first nine batters he faced. He went five full innings, giving up three runs off of four hits.
- Jordan Menfee took over in the sixth and went 1.2 innings giving up just one run off one hit, a solo homer by Hall to start the seventh.
- Seth Rosenberg relieved Menfee in the seventh and induced a ground-out to strand a pair of RedHawks on base. Rosenberg totaled 1.1 scoreless innings with one hit.
- Cameron Ross came out for the ninth inning and gave up the go-ahead run before retiring the next three in order.
Key Moments
- The Norse scored in the first three innings to lead, 4-0, while the RedHawks were held hitless.
- In the bottom of the first, the Norse had two on base with two outs and Chad Roberts crushed the ball to left-center to score both on the double.
- A Moffatt double plated Kyle Colletta and extended the NKU lead to 3-0 in the second.
- NKU scored for the third-straight frame when Mercurio clubbed his solo shot to center field for a 4-0 advantage.
- Home runs were the difference-maker as Miami slugged three off of three different NKU pitchers, scoring four of their five runs on homers.
- A two-run homer in the fourth, a run scored on a sacrifice fly in the fifth and a pair of solo homers from Hall handed Miami the victory.
