ATLANTA – A four-run fifth inning brought the Northern Kentucky University baseball team within three runs of Georgia State on Saturday afternoon, but the Panthers pulled away with the help of a four-run eighth to defeat NKU, 12-4, at GSU Baseball Complex.
The Norse move to 1-8 overall while Georgia State improves to 6-3.
At the Plate
- Seven different players combined for eight team hits.
- Junior first baseman Trey Ganns posted his third multi-hit game this season, going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
- Designated hitter Chad Roberts and second baseman Ty Amann added one RBI apiece.
On the Mound
- Starter Jordan Menfee absorbed the loss after throwing the first two innings.
- Junior Brody Basilone relieved Menfee and tossed 2.0 innings, allowing two hits and one run while walking none.
- Sophomore reliever Seth Rosenberg faced the minimum in his 1.0 shutout inning pitched before Kyle Arganbright took to the mound and threw 1.1 inning with one run allowed.
- Cameron Ross relieved Arganbright and picked up a pair of quick outs to end the seventh.

- A four-run first inning helped Georgia State speed out to a 7-0 lead through three innings. Five singles fueled the four-run first. The Panthers then added two runs in the second and one in the third.
- Norse relievers Basilone and Rosenberg set the Panthers down in order in the fourth and fifth.
- Meanwhile, the offense closed the gap to 7-4 with a four-run fifth. TJ Alas and Jake Richmond led off the frame with a pair of singles before Ganns delivered an RBI single, Roberts slapped an RBI double and Amann pushed a run across on a groundout.
- Georgia State added a run in the bottom of the sixth on a Cam Sperry RBI single before Arganbright delivered an inning-ending strikeout to strand three Panthers on base.
- GSU's four-run eighth included a three-run home run from Terrell Frazier that helped seal the win.

- Richmond has posted a .571 average (4-for-7) in two games against Georgia State. Two of his four hits have been doubles. The junior has also scored three times in the series.
- Richmond extended his reached base streak to five games, as he has recorded a base hit in four-straight contests.

- Basilone made his fourth appearance out of the bullpen and has held opponents to a .217 average.
