Panthers claim doubleheader sweep over @NKUNorseBSB

MILWAUKEE – Northern Kentucky baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader with Horizon League foe Milwaukee, with the Panthers shutting out the Norse 15-0 in the first game before claiming an 8-1 win in the second. With the pair of losses, NKU drops to 17-30 overall and 10-13 in League play, while Milwaukee moves to 19-28 (9-14 HL).

At the Plate
On the Mound
  • Ganns got the start on the mound, pitching 2.0 innings with six runs on eight hits surrendered. The junior struck out four and walked one, and dropped to 3-6 with the loss.
  • Travis Rowland took over in the third frame, tossing 5.1 innings with eight strikeouts and three batters walked. The Panthers scored eight runs on nine hits.
  • Joe Martin took over for the final .2 innings, surrendering three hits and one run.
Key Moments
  • The Norse were retired in order for the first run-through of the lineup, not reaching base until the fourth inning when Ganns took advantage of a fielding error.
  • Milwaukee plated three runs in the first inning and four in the third, which included four-straight doubles in the fourth to score a pair of runs.
  • Rowland took over in the middle of the third and saw two more runs scored to close out the frame and one in the fourth, but righted the ship with three scoreless innings by the Panthers.
  • The Norse were able to load the bases in the top of the eighth thanks to a trio of singles, but left all three stranded.
  • UWM plated seven runs in the eighth, sparked by a two-RBI single and a three-run home run, to plate the final runs of the contest.

At the Plate
  • The Panthers held a slimmer edge in hits in the second outing of the day, 8-6.
  • Six different Norse recorded a hit, including doubles from Ganns and Chad Roberts.
  • Roberts scored NKU's lone run, and was driven in by Mike Moffatt.
  • TJ Alas extended his on-base streak to 38 games after recording a hit in both games of the doubleheader.
On the Mound
  • Five Norse appeared on the mound, starting with Brody Basilone. The righty pitched 3.0 innings with five strikeouts and three batters walked, surrendering four runs on two hits and fell to 0-5 on the season.
  • Joordan Menfee took over for the next 2.0 innings, allowing three runs on as many runs with one strikeout and no walks surrendered.
  • Cameron Ross, Charlie Jerger and Seth Rosenberg each pitched an inning with a combined four strikeouts and one walk between the trio.
Key Moments
  • Milwaukee went up two runs after the first inning, and followed it up with another pair of runs in the third off a two-RBI double.
  • The fifth frame saw three errors by the Norse, which allowed the Panthers to plate three unearned runs and take a 7-0 lead, before the final run was scored in the bottom of the eighth.
  • NKU avoided the shutout in the top of the ninth, starting with Roberts doubling down the left field line. Moffatt singled up the middle, which allowed Roberts to cross the plate for the only Norse run of the doubleheader.
