Men's and women's @NKUNorseXCTF post solid day at Mastodon Open

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Northern Kentucky University men's and women's track and field teams were in action at the Mastodon Open hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne inside the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse. 

Men's results
  • Kyle Mastin continued his dominance, beginning the indoor season with a win in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:41.24. Nicholas Lee turned in a third place performance in the event as well with a time of 9:07.99.
  • Cody Chism just missed winning the 800-meter run after posting a time of 2:00.18. Josiah Sovine of Huntington took first place with a time of 1:59.60. 
  • The NKU 4x400-meter relay squad placed third overall with a time of 3:35.03. 
Women's results
  • NKU placed first in the high jump as Julia Pohl recorded a mark of 5-feet 5 inches (1.65m). Emma Hopkins placed seventh in the event, posting a clearance of 4-feet 9 inches (1.45m) as well. 
  • Megan Cole placed third overall in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:08.57. Jacquelyn Witt went on to finish sixth during the run, totaling a time of 18:39.53 as well. 
  • Multiple Norse placed in the top five in the 60-meter dash as Lynsey Shipley finished second at 7.68 and Emily Phillips placed fourth at 7.81 in the finals. 
  • Shipley also went on to place second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.29. 
  • Maddie Frey totaled another second place finish for the Norse, this time in the 3000m run with a time of 10:29.13. 
Up next
  • The Norse men's and women's track and field teams return to action next at the Jim Green Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky. The event is scheduled to run from Jan. 14-15 as well.
