@NKUNorseXCTF Posts Successful Weekend at Marshall Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The Northern Kentucky University men's and women's track and field teams posted a successful trip to West Virginia as the Norse competed in the Marshall Invitational Thursday and Friday. 

"We had a very good weekend that was much needed by our student-athletes and our coaching staff," said head coach Steve Kruse. "Lots of PR's, a school record, and a few victories."

Women's results
  • Lynsey Shipley notched a win in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.32. Megan Sullivan was not far behind her Norse teammate, running a PR of 57.34 to finish second. 
  • Megan Cole had a huge day in the 3000-meter run, playing second in the event. Cole's time of 10:07.18 was not only a career-best for the junior, but a Northern Kentucky record as well. 
  • Julia Pohl placed second overall in the high jump with a mark of 5-feet 2 1/2 inches (1.59m). 
  • Emma Hopkins turned in a sixth place performance in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.94 in the finals. 
  • Emily Phillips went on to finish fifth in the 60-meter dash at 7.94. 
  • Sophia DeLisio ran a season-best in the mile during the meet, finishing sixth overall with a time of 5:18.54. Nelle Yankovich additionally ran a season-best in the mile, finishing seventh with a time of 5:20.87. 
  • Erika Nageleisen crossed the finish line in fourth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.18.
  • NKU capped off the meet with a victory in the 4x400-meter relay as Andrea Armstrong, Nageleisen, Shipley and Sullivan posted a time of 3:51.81. 

Men's results
  • Kyle Mastin looked dominant in the 5000-meter run as he took home first place with a PR of 14:57.64. Mastin also turned in a great run in the 3000m event with a PR of 8:36.35 for third place overall. 
  • Owen Matthews went on to finish third in the 5000m event with a PR of 15:39.60 and Nicholas Lee also PR'd in the event with a time of 15:47.48 and finished seventh. 
  • Cody Chism posted a season-best of 1:56.37 in the 800m run to finish second in the event. Chism nearly missed his PR in the event as well (1:56.18). 
  • Liam Ehrman and Sam Slocum finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 60m dash today as Ehrman posted a PR of 7.20 and Slocum at 7.26 overall.

  • The Norse women's and men's track and field teams are back in action next week at the Al Campbell Invitational on Friday, Feb. 18 hosted by the University of Akron.
