HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Horizon League office announced Tuesday afternoon that Northern Kentucky's
Ben Gerl was selected as the Nike
® #HLBASE Pitcher of the Week.
"Ben is a hard working guy who is a Norse through and through," said head baseball coach
Dizzy Peyton. "Very happy for him and his accomplishment."
Gerl, a sophomore from Joliet, Illinois, posted a phenomenal outing on the hill against UIC this past weekend, tossing a complete game in the win over the Flames. He finished with a season-high 10 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of just .185 while allowing only five hits and one run.
He improved his overall record to 3-5 this season and is just 1-of-9 players in the Horizon League to throw a complete game this year. Additionally he ranks 2nd in the conference in innings pitched, 7th in strikeouts 11th in earned run average and 13th in opponent batting average.
Northern Kentucky Baseball will be back in action next on Wednesday, May 11 as the Norse will make the quick trip north to face Cincinnati. This nonconference bout is set for an 11 a.m. (ET) start and will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
