HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball program compete at the Daytona Beach Classic on both Friday, November 24 and Saturday, November 25 from the Daytona Beach Ocean Center located in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Norse will first matchup against the Panthers of Pittsburgh on Friday, Nov. 24 at 3:30 p.m. (ET) to open the Beach Classic. Pitt currently leads the all-time series against Northern Kentucky at 3-1 overall. The last time this programs met on the hardwood was during the 1980-81 season as the Panthers won it 106-72. NKU won the first-ever meeting between the schools during the 1978-79 season by a score of 70-61 in Highland Heights.
NKU will then take on Chattanooga the following day, Saturday, Nov. 25 with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET) inside the Ocean Center. The Norse hold a 3-2 advantage over the Mocs, last meeting on the court during the 1982-83 campaign where Chattanooga beat NKU by a final score of 93-74 in Tennessee. Northern Kentucky won the very first matchup in history between the programs however in 1975-76 with an impressive 96-63 victory.
The Ocean Center, located only 400 feet from the world-renowned Daytona Beach and surrounded by outdoor adventures and incredible attractions and accommodations, is a modern, state-of-the-art facility that offers planners, exhibitors, and attendees the unique opportunity to host and attend events of all sizes. The arena is capable of holding more than nine thousand attendees.
Northern Kentucky is coming off a Horizon League Semifinals run with an overall record of 17-14 and a fifth-place finish in the conference at 10-10 as well. NKU will see key returners in
Kailee Davis,
Khamari Mitchell-Steen and
Kennedy Igo to lead the Norse in the goal of a Horizon League title for the 2023-24 season. Key role players
Allison Basye and
Paige Hodgson are back for the Norse as well to help fuel Northern Kentucky on the court.
NKU will see seven newcomers join the squad for the 2023-24 campaign which includes juniors
Mya Meredith and
Macey Blevins, and freshmen
Meadow Tisdale,
Carter McCray,
Noelle Hubert,
Madison French and
Gabby Razzano.
