HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse women's soccer announced its second signing to the 2026 class on Monday, as Zellie Barnes will join the Norse next year.
"Zellie is a technical midfielder known for her work rate, passing, and leadership," said head coach
Bob Sheehan. "A creative playmaker, she excels at setting up teammates with well-timed assists and maintaining composure. A multi-sport athlete, we are thrilled to have Zellie joining the program."
Zellie Barnes, a midfielder from Alliance, Ohio, comes to the Norse after a great high school career with Alliance High. Her accolades include an All-Greater-Akron first team selection, a two-time selection to the Stark County first team, a two-time selection to the Buckeye Conference first team, and earning conference player of the year honors in 2025. A four-year starter in central midfield with the Aviators, Barnes ended her career with 28 goals and 41 assists. She currently stands as Alliance's all-time assist leader.
In the club circuit, Barnes played for Canton United from 2018-22 and has represented Cleveland Ambassadors FC since 2022. Barnes is a three-time Ohio State Cup Champion and a four-time national qualifier.
