Bornhoffer to depart Norse Women’s Soccer program

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Following 15 years of service to the Northern Kentucky University Norse women's soccer program, assistant coach Steve Bornhoffer is heading west to take the head coaching position at Bellarmine.

"We congratulate Steve on being named the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Bellarmine University," said NKU Head Coach Bob Sheehan. "Steve has been an outstanding contributor to the program in his 15 years with us.  We wish Steve the best at Bellarmine."

Since Bornhoffer joined Head Coach Bob Sheehan's staff at Northern Kentucky prior to the 2011 season, the Norse women's soccer program continued building upon its tremendous success throughout the program's history. In his first season, Northern Kentucky's final in NCAA Division II, the squad finished with a 16-2-2 record and a Midwest regional appearance, the school's fourth straight at the time.

In Bornhoffer's 14 seasons, the Norse amassed an overall record of 130-95-28 and a conference record of 77-41-15.

In nine seasons in the Horizon League with Bornhoffer on staff, the Norse have proven to be a consistent top-performing program, finishing with eight winning seasons, seven conference tournament semifinal appearances, four appearances in the Horizon League championship game, a Horizon League regular season title in 2020-21, and a Horizon League Tournament championship in 2016, which marked Northern Kentucky's first Division I NCAA Tournament appearance.

Prior to joining the Norse women's soccer coaching staff, Bornhoffer made his mark as a four-year member of the NKU men's soccer team. Playing under Hall of Fame head coach John Toebben, Bornhoffer wrapped up his playing career in 1997 and became a graduate assistant coach for the NKU men. He was twice named an All-Great Lakes Valley Conference and Academic All-GLVC honoree during his playing time and was a recipient of the NKU Career Achievement Award in his senior year.

Bornhoffer still ranks in the top 10 all-time at NKU for goals (37), points (87), and games played (83).

The Norse and Knights face off this season on August 28th in Louisville.
