Karina Bystry notches third #HLWBB Freshman of the Week award

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Kentucky University Norse women's basketball freshman Karina Bystry earned her third Horizon League Freshman of the Week award on Monday, following a stellar week in which the Norse earned a pair of road victories. 

Bystry averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in road wins over Youngstown State and Robert Morris, two teams sitting in the top five of the Horizon League standings. In Thursday's 61-49 win over YSU, Bystry put up nine points, four rebounds, and two assists. Her best performance of the week came on Saturday against RMU, where she scored 24 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out four assists in the 81-76 victory. Bystry hit 13 free throws in that win, which marked the most ever in a single game from a Horizon League freshman. 

Bystry is currently the leading scorer among Horizon League freshmen with 12.9 points per game, and also leads all freshmen in free throws/game with 4.4. She ranks third in both three-pointers per game with 1.5 and steals per game with 1.1. In league play, Bystry averages 14.5 points per game, which ranks fifth among all Horizon League players, and third in free throw percentage with 81.6%.
