CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Northern Kentucky women's golfer Sarah Kellam is three strokes off the lead after shooting a 3-over 75 in a soggy opening round of the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.
Kellam's quintet sits in sixth place at Austin Peay's annual tournament, while NKU's second squad is one spot behind in a tie for seventh.
Kristen Smith carded an 81 (+9), joining Kellam, Shelby Power (82, +10) and Ryleigh Waltz (+12, 84) to open the tournament with a 322 (+34). Taylor Wogenstahl was one stroke off the pace, scoring an 85 (+13).
NKU's two teams are just one stroke away from one another, as the B-team tallied a 323 (+35) and is tied with Murray State's second team in seventh.
Molly Arnold led the second quintet with a 7-over 79, earning a share of 20th. Teammates MacKenzie Laumann and Tara Clark posted matching 81s (+9), while Katie-Scarlett Skinner shot an 82 (+10). Allison Leigeb shot a 91 (+19) to close out the round for NKU.
Kellam is within striking distance of Tennessee Tech's Whitney Robertson, who leads the event at even par. However, Tennessee Tech sits in third place with 302 (+14), after Belmont and Murray State entered the clubhouse with 301 (+13) each.
The second and final round of the tournament is slated to begin at 8:30 Tuesday morning with a shotgun start.
