NKU’s Kellam Wins Charles Braun Jr. Intercollegiate

Sarah Kellam's victory in the Charles Braun Jr. Intercollegiate marks the first individual championship for the women's golf team since becoming a Division I team.

Final Results

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Sarah Kellam won the Charles Braun Jr. Intercollegiate, marking the first collegiate victory for the Northern Kentucky women's golf team as a Division I program. Kellam topped the leaderboard following the first day of action and torrential downpours soaked Oak Meadows Country Club, forcing the tournament to conclude after Monday's results.

Teammate Kennedy Windlan was nipping on Kellam's heels and took home second place in the event.

"I'm incredibly proud of Sarah [Kellam] and Kennedy [Windlan]," said head coach Darryl Landrum. "On Monday, winds were pushing 30 mph and the greens were slick as snot. Sarah and Kennedy kept their composure, kept the ball below the hole and sank their putts."

Since becoming an NCAA Division I program in the 2012-13 season, the Norse have not had a player take home the individual top honors. Kellam ended that stretch on Tuesday, as her 1-over 73 from Monday's round was enough to secure the victory.

Windlan was nearly as sensational, carding a 2-over 74 and finishing runner-up to Kellam.

Kellam and Windlan led the Norse to a 313 (+25) team total, which placed NKU second overall in the tournament. The runner-up finish is also the best finish for Northern Kentucky as a team since the D-I transition.

Tara Clark and Allison Leigeb each shot opening round 83s, placing them in a tie for 35thRyleigh Waltz rounded out the Norse quintet competing in the team competition, and her 85 earned a share of 50th.

Allisa Davis' 8-over 80 placed her in a tie for 23rd, while Taylor Wogenstahl finished t-56th after carding an 87.

The Norse are headed into the off-season on a high note. NKU's two medalists and runner-up finish this week followed a rousing fifth place showing at the Dayton Flyer Invitational a week ago. Waltz led the charge individually for Northern Kentucky in that event, finishing t-13th.
