Karina Bystry tabbed #HLWBB Freshman of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Kentucky University Norse Women's Basketball guard Karina Bystry earned her first career weekly honor on Monday, picking up Horizon League Freshman of the Week honors.

Bystry broke out offensively with a phenomenal week, making her first two starts and leading the team in scoring in both of NKU's games. On Wednesday, Bystry led the Norse to a 70-61 win over Toledo, scoring 18 points with four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. In Saturday's loss at Chattanooga, she dropped 21 points, a new career high, going 5-10 from the field, 2-5 from three, and 9-11 from the free throw line. She also grabbed five rebounds and recorded a pair of steals.

The Engelwood, Tennessee, native got to the free-throw line at an outstanding rate, recording the second-most free-throw attempts in the country (24) in the week, trailing only 2025 All-American Audi Crooks. She made 18 of those free throw attempts, which ranked tied for fifth in the country's weekly rankings. Bystry also led the Horizon League in total points, scoring 39.

NKU Women's Basketball heads to Nashville for the Music City Classic on Tuesday & Wednesday.
