She led NKU to the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2007. In addition to holding NKU’s kills record (1,850), she also still sits in NKU's career annals with 63 solo blocks (6th), 291 block assists (4th), 200 career aces (10th) and 1,191 digs (12th).

Holmes is one of only five Northern Kentucky University student-athletes, across all sports, to have been named an All-American at least three times. She was named the GLVC Freshman of the Year in 2004, earning a spot on the All-GLVC Second Team before claiming first-team honors in the ensuing three years which culminated being named the 2007 GLVC Player of the Year and Great Lakes Valley Regional Player of the Year.  Holmes was also a standout in the classroom, earning GLVC All-Academic status all four years.
